The goal of Handshake Betting is to make betting easier, personal, and fun. Before I came up with the idea of my business I was just your every day sports bettor. I would use apps to bet against companies in the hope that I would make money and have fun doing it. Eventually, throughout my betting I realized that there really wasn’t any competitive drive behind sports betting. My friends and I would just sit around the TV watching sports and celebrate if we won and yell if we lost. Occasionally we would bet against each other, which made it more fun for us because we were routing against our friends in a competitive way. What we found out about those personal bets was that they weren’t always fair and sometimes something in the game would happen that would cause discussion if someone was going to pay out. This could be the starting quarterback of a team getting injured in the first drive or a bad call by the refs/umps. We also discovered that the odds we were playing with wasn’t quite fair as well. We would bet straight one to one odds, which doesn’t really work if someone is betting for the clear favorite. I was sick and tired of losing money to big corporation who make their odds on games and profit from those who try to bet against them. I was also sick and tired of the arguing with my friends on if a bet was valid because of a injury or bad call. It is with this mindset that I set out to make something better for the rest of the world. I wanted to create a site where you could bet against your friends with self agreed upon odds, with guaranteed payouts. I also wanted to bring the sports betting world closer together, which is why I wanted to create person-to-person betting for everyone. This is why I also came up with the idea to allow public forum betting, where you can place a potential bet with self selected odds for anyone to bet against you on the app. While the app still does allow betting against the house, the goal is clear, betting should be made more personal.
